Arshdeep — adept at swinging it his way and rising to the occasion

Thursday was supposed to be a happy homecoming for a trio of local lads in the first men’s international to be played in New Chandigarh. Much was expected of the Punjab triumvirate of vice-captain Shubman Gill, his opening partner Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh, the country’s leading wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals. Instead, each of them disappointed in the team’s crushing 51-run defeat by South Africa, a result that helped the visitors square the five-match series at 1-1.

Abhishek not worried about Gill and Suryakumar’s dip in form

India opener Abhishek Sharma is not worried about the dip in form that has affected Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.I’ll you one thing straight away. Trust me, Suryakumar and Shubman will win matches for India in the World Cup, and matches before the World Cup as well. I’ve played with them for so long, especially with Shubman. I know where Shubman can excel, in what conditions, irrespective of the opponent. I have full trust in him. Very soon, everyone else will gain that trust in him too,” Abhishek, who scored a fluent 35 in the third T20I against South Africa here on Sunday, said in the post match press conference.
